Highlights -

- Private equity investments increased 26% in terms of deal value and 22% in volume compared to 2010 levels with investments worth $10.85 billion coming across 513 deals.

- The median deal amount increased from $9 million in 2010 to $10 million in 2011.

- The average deal value increased 17% from $23 million to $27 million during the same period.

- Private Equity deals under $50 million accounted for 69% of total deal volume in 2011, with big ticket deals ($100 million and above) accounting for another 5.4%.

- Big-ticket deals ($100 million and above) constituted 49% of the total private equity capital invested in 2011.

- In 2011, 43 India dedicated private equity funds are launched with a consolidated fund size of $6.44 billion.

- In 2011, 25 India dedicated funds managed to mop-up over $3.3 billion in capital commitments from limited partners, over 1.3x the $2.5 billion raised by 22 funds in 2010.

- Private equity investors have liquidated investments to the tune of $13.75 billion.

- Mergers & Acquisitions in India in 2011 declined nearly a third to $41 billion as against $60 billion recorded in 2010.

- The median deal amount decreased from $19 million in 2010 to $12 million in 2011.

- The average deal value plunged 27% to $105 million from $143 million in 2010.

- Deals under $100 million accounted for 42% of the total deal flow in 2011, while small-sized deals (under $5 million) accounted for 18%.

- Big- ticket deals ($100 million and above) accounted for 86% of the total disclosed M&A deal value in 2011.
